For Higher Education
Students in both undergraduate and graduate programs face academic pressures and stresses from the life changes that accompany student life. Students have voiced their concerns to me concerning maintaining good grades, problems with their relationships, feeling that they are losing focus, worries about their ability to find employment, whether the economy will support their employment at graduation, and even anxiety over feeling addicted to their cell phones.
Despite believing stress won’t affect them, stress poses a real risk to students’ health and to academic performance. Stress has a negative impact on concentration, memory, focus, relationships, and grades. It causes health issues such as insomnia, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, headaches, digestive issues, and substance abuse. In addition, the stress and anxiety experienced as a student can remain with them and decrease performance in chosen professions such as medicine and law.
Students lack the coping skills to successfully reduce stress and its impact. Students commonly try to relieve stress by sleeping, exercising, and/or through food. I work with students with an integrative, holistic approach, and give them tools to help them shift their thoughts and their awareness.
Learning how to recognize and manage stress can have a positive and lasting impact on life as a student and well beyond. I teach students that they can choose to respond to stress proactively, and give them the tools to do so. Education and intervention can make a significant impact. I’ve seen a positive result in one session.
I work with colleges and universities to schedule special events, webinars, single or ongoing sessions, and individual or group meetings. I am available to work with the institution’s wellness program.
