About Susan Wilk
I am dedicated to enabling my clients to overcome stress and to work centered, focused, and in command of their energies. I founded Focused Mind Dynamics, LLC with that purpose. My focus on this objective stems from my professional career together with my experiences in teaching meditation and stress management. Many of my students shared their struggles with job-related stress. I saw how these techniques made a significant difference in their lives, personally and professionally.
I am well-acquainted with the demands and stresses of the workplace, as an employee and in management, and as a small business owner. My legal career began in criminal appellate practice. I moved to Washington, D.C., where I had the honor of serving for several years as a senior attorney with the Securities and Exchange Commission and in the Office of General Counsel of the Federal Home Loan Bank Board. I later served as General Counsel and Director of Administration for a leading IT company in New Jersey.
The combination of my business and legal experience and my certifications in teaching meditation and stress management make me uniquely qualified to help you with your workplace stress.
I have seen firsthand how workplace stress impacts people and businesses. My own experience included challenges of corporate expansions and profitability, as well as economic downturns, recessions, product shortages, outsourcing, hiring freezes, job growth, and reductions in force. I also dealt with my own job loss and life in transition.
I am passionate about teaching people to change the way they respond to stress and thereby to thrive. Because of my career, I am especially passionate about helping people in the legal profession, from law school students to members of the judiciary. Having seen my father build a business from an idea to a successful corporation, I am equally dedicated to working with entrepreneurs bring their dreams to fruition from a place of strength and focus.
I enjoy working with students and faculties in higher education, including medical and law schools as well as undergraduate and graduate students.
My Passion
I was introduced to meditation after the sudden death of my mother. I found that it was a welcome and effective antidote for grief. Over time, I found that it had a profound impact upon my personal and professional life, too. To share these benefits with others, I completed extensive training in meditation and stress management and became a certified teacher. I was invited to teach as a member of the wellness staff of a local hospital. I expanded my teaching to non-profit and academic settings. My students came from varied walks of life, at different stages of life and facing different challenges, most seeking to reduce stress.
In my job, I found that meditation helped me to improve perform my responsibilities and reduce workplace stress. I offered meditation classes to my colleagues. Meditation in our workplace helped the Sales teams prepare proposals and confident, winning presentations. The short amount of time devoted to meditation yielded an impressive return on investment.
I’ve worked with investment advisors and lawyers to help them overcome their work-related stresses and perform their jobs with greater focus, concentration, and effectiveness. I’ve worked with people in transition to approach interviews and new jobs from a place of calm and centeredness.
All these experiences launched me on this path and led to the development of my integrative approach. In my 20 years teaching, I have seen the significant difference these stress management techniques have made for my clients, in both personal and professional lives. I’ve seen people overcome panic attacks and anxiety, calm their minds, approach work with a new perspective, greater clarity, and find renewed and greater job satisfaction and fulfillment.
My Goal
It is my goal to teach you to overcome workplace stress. My aim is to help you to renew yourself and improve your overall well-being.
